To Ocean

Many a night, I fall asleep by the shore.
Nightly ocean always so comforting.
Immensity of ocean cut down by darkness into a womb,
Pounding of waves evoking my first memory-
of a place of which I remember nothing but a rhythm-
a home throbbing with a heartbeat;
That heartbeat of my mother, that first cognition by my consciousness,
Is mimicked by nightly pulse of ocean,
Always bringing bliss, and sleep.
